About Brick Gables

Background

Our appreciation for older barns and farms began over eight years ago when we bought Minnich’s Farm Bakery. Growing up only two miles away from the bakery, we had the privilege of having farms in front of and behind our house. Living in the country and our experiences of playing and working in old barns initiated our fascination with the wooden architecture.

While we appreciated the quaint environment of Minnich’s Farm Bakery, (renamed Zig’s Bakery & Deli after a year of ownership), renting space was not ideal. We began to envision the possibility and charm of owning our own barn. With the growth of our parent company Country Home Catering, we considered a combined location that would accommodate a spacious kitchen for both businesses, retail space, and a banquet facility.

In 2013 a family member approached us about an existing barn structure on Newport Road that might fit our needs. We were excited about the potential of the old structure and after quite a few lengthy meetings for approval our dreams were about to become a reality.

Brick Gables becomes a Reality

The result of a year of planning and renovating, 1800s barn will be the new home for Brick Gables, a venue for weddings, gathering and events. Brick Gables will have the capacity to host events of up to 300 guests in a climate controlled environment. There will be spaces for outside events including an outdoor wedding ceremony courtyard that can be covered in the event of inclement weather.

The barn will also house Zig’s Bakery & Cafe. With over four times the retail space, Zig’s Bakery is looking forward to expanding as a cafe and changing the name to reflect an expanded menu. We will be offering sandwiches, soups, salads, and a wide variety of beverages in addition to our current line of bakery and deli items. We will be open Monday through Saturday and offer breakfast, lunch, and light dinner options. We’ll be able to seat up to 60 in the cafe with additional outdoor patio seating.

Our project is set to break ground the middle of August 2014 with an early 2015 opening.
